COVID-19 Lockdown Level 2

Dear Tenants

On Saturday 15 August, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the much-anticipated easing of national lockdown regulations to Level 2. This comes as a great relief to many fellow South Africans as this means  more of us can return to work and we can begin to rebuild our economy.

Level 2 of the national lockdown means that the below are permitted:

  • Travel between provinces for any purpose,
  • Most business and industries can now operate under Covid-19 L2 restrictions.
  • Gyms and fitness centers will reopen,
  • Visits to family and friends in small groups of less than 10,
  • Restaurants will remain open until curfew at 22:00.

As Ithemba, we understand how difficult the lockdown period was for all of our tenants. For your convenience and in line with the new regulations, the below will be permitted in all of our buildings as of Wednesday, 19 August:

  • Visitors during the hours before the daily 22:00 curfew,
  • Children's play areas will be opened. All children using these facilities must be supervised at all times,
  • Braai and communal areas will be opened with a maximum limit of 10 people in a group.
  • Ithemba building gyms will be operational and available to tenants under strict Covid-19 safety rules.

It remains the responsibility of every tenant to ensure that visitors, children and anyone using any communal and braai areas to adhere to the building rules as well as the social distancing, personal hygiene and curfew regulations as stipulated by the national government. In addition, masks must be worn at all times. Ithemba will not be liable for any injuries or illness due to negligence on the part of our tenants or their visitors. Unfortunately, we will be forced to close these areas again, and disallow visitors, should these regulations not be adhered to.

The following actions must remain in place for everyone's safety:

  • Prioritizing personal hygiene
    • Masks must be worn at all times
    • Sanitize your hands when entering or exiting a building - use the sanitizer spray provided at the entrances.
    • Furthermore, wash or sanitize your hands throughout the day even in your apartment.
  • Keeping your building clean
    • Take care of your home - play your part in keeping your lobby, corridors and other common areas clean.
    • Discard refuse in the bins provided. Do not leave it in the passages or staircases.
    • Please do not litter in or around any Ithemba Building.
    • Reprimand anyone who do not keep our buildings and streets clean.
  • Acting responsibly if sick
    • If you exhibit symptoms of fever, dry cough or shortness of breath you must isolate yourself immediately and contact a doctor or medical facility by phone.
    • Alternatively contact the NICD hotline on 0800 029 999 and seek advice on whether or not you should get tested.
    • Notify your building manager or an Ithemba staff member by WhatsApp.

The cleaning and hygiene regimes implemented during lockdown will be maintained strictly throughout all of our buildings. Strict security and access control measures remain in place to ensure your safety.
